to Woody Mann for introducing me to the songs of Jeff Meyer. When Woody and I were recording our duet CD in New York, I got to meet Jeff. Ever since he has been so generous with sending me many of his new tunes. It's exciting to open an envelope and finding leadsheets of new songs, composed by a musician/songwriter from New York.
Now, we are playing his songs in Germany, recording and performing them for new audiences. thanks to Woody and Jeff for their spirit of friendship and music. These songs are dedicated to the struggle and searching that is now, more than ever, part of life in the Big Apple.

Susanne Vogt ist in ihrer Laufbahn als Sängerin in unterschiedliche musikalische Richtungen vorgedrungen. In ihrer Heimatstadt Göttingen machte sie als Schülerin bei den "Beavers" als Gitarristin und Sängerin erste Banderfahrungen. Durch einen einjährigen Aufenthalt in den U-S.A. kam sie in Kontakt mit der Folkszene und interessierte sich für Contemporary American Folkmusic. Während ihres Musik- und Kunststudiums erforschte sie ihre stimmlichen Ausdrucksmöglickeiten im weiten Feld zwischen Kunstlied und experimentaller Performance. Mit ihrer Band "Sango" veröffentlichte sie zwei LP's mit eigenen Texten und Kompositionen, die von der Musikpresse durchweg gelobt wurden: "Diese Band ist ein Beispiel dafür, daß es echt noch Vollblutmusiker gibt..." (Fachblatt Musikmagazin), "... am herausragendsten bei dieser Formation ist aber die zarte und ebenso voluminöse Stimme von Susanne Vogt..." (FFB). Im Jazz fand sie schließlich die größtmögliche Freiheit die verschiedensten Stimmungen vokal auszudrücken und mit der "Jazz Oder NIe Bigband" auf ausgedehnten Touren ihre Improvisationslust auszuleben. Für ihre "eigenständigen stimmlichen Leistungen in unterschiedlichen Bereichen sowie für ihre experimentierfreudige kompositorische Tätigkeit" erhielt sie den Kulturförderpreis der Stadt Kassel.
